- Kanye West booked a hijab-wearing model for his New York Fashion Show catwalk this year
- The girl is fast becoming famous
- She participated in Miss Minnesota last year
A hijab-wearing 19-year-old girl has made her modelling debut at Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 5 show.
Halima Aden, from Minnesota, hit the
catwalk this week during New York Fashion Week, and has also signed with
the famous IMG Models agency.
The teenager created quite a stir when she competed last fall in the Miss Minnesota pageant, wearing a hijab and a burkini.
Halima, from Somalian origin, was born in a Kenyan refugee camp, but has grown up in the U.S.
Kanye West showed on Wednesday the fifth
season of his Yeezy collection for Adidas at Pier 59 Studios. People
were awed at Aden’s beauty and aplomb while wearing her hiyab during the
show.
The
rapper’s collection showed a lot of of n*de, brown and gray colors, as
well as many black garments. There were plenty of sweatshirts,
sweatpants, bodysuits and crop tops. Halima only modeled a fur coat, not
any of the more see-through clothing.
Aden admitted she “didn’t really have modeling in mind,” when she first started out. She adds that she only “wanted
to spread a positive message about beauty and diversity, and to show
other young Muslim women that there is room for them.”
Look at her great performance:
