Who did it best?

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage sadly lost her father earlier this year in late July. The singer took to Instagram to announce the sad news and was met with support and condolences from everybody including her fans and colleagues in the industry.

Now, weeks after his passing, it's time to finally lay her dad to rest and in true Tiwa Savage form, she pulled out all the stops. One looking at the event would not on first glance know that it is a funeral. From the lavish looks to the money that was being sprayed on the dance floor, the event looked more like a wedding reception than a funeral which I'm guessing was the plan here. It was moreso a celebration of life than it was a funeral.

It was an asoebi event and so guests only had to customize the fabrics they had to their desired taste before coming. For me, asoebi events like this are a lot more interesting to judge because everybody is practically wearing the same pattern, the major difference is in how each person tailored their own to fit them.

• Supporters brawled on streets of Porto last night before Man City battle Chelsea in Champions League Final

• Footage shows two gangs face off above a Metro stop as they shouted expletives at one another last night 

• 30-strong crowd turned violent when a bar stool was hurled back and forth as local police pulled groups away

Rival gangs of English football fans clashed with riot police armed with batons on the streets of Porto today ahead of the hotly anticipated Champions League final.

Supporters of Manchester City and Chelsea fought each other and police by the Douro river in the north-west Portuguese city after a bar stool was hurled back and forth.

Armed with flags adorned with their club crests, English fans flouted social distancing as they threw punches and lit up flares in skirmishes following a day of heavy drinking. 

Photos earlier in the day showed hundreds of topless supporters drinking and cheering ahead of the UEFA Champions League final at the Dragao stadium, the home ground of FC Porto.

Up to 16,500 fans will be admitted, with each side allocated 6,000 tickets - with around 2,000 going to UEFA delegates and sponsors - and the rest sold to regular punters in Portugal. 

But thousands more fans who do not have tickets will also face the agony of missing the game on TV, as bars in Porto close at 10.30pm on Saturday night as per coronavirus regulations.   

Last night Antonio Fonseca, chairman of the Association of Bar Keepers of Historic Porto, said he feared there would be trouble if bars and restaurants closed at that time.

He told MailOnline: 'I'm worried about this aspect - if the game goes into extra time and it has penalties like the other night it won't finish until maybe 10.45, so we face the prospect of owners asking people to leave with the match yet to finish. Who is going to be brave enough to tell these people who have been drinking all day to go?

'It raises the possibility of violence and aggression and that's why we asked the local council for an extension but so far we have heard nothing. It's not going to be easy to ask the English supporters to leave.

'This situation should have been taken care of. In the past, the Porto authorities met with us but unfortunately, they have not done so. Everything will shut at the same time which means there will be large groups on the streets and the police will have to disperse them quickly.'

Robbers reportedly attack Aso Rock, attempt to burgle Buhari's chief of staff's residence

- Suspected armed robbers invaded the residence of Prof. Ibrahim Gambari

- Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesperson, confirmed this on Monday, May 10
A report by Daily Trust indicates that the president said there was an attempt to burgle the residence of Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari. information gathered that it was reported that Gambari and an administrative officer at the presidency simply identified as Maikano, were robbed.

An online report had noted that armed robbers invaded Aso Rock and emptied the residences of Gambari and Maikano. But in his response on the night of Monday, May 10, according to the newspaper, Malam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, confirmed the incident.

He said:

“The chief of staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has confirmed that there “was a foolish attempt” to burgle his residence at 3:00 am this morning but it turned out to be unsuccessful.

“Professor Gambari, whose house is on a street next to the Villa has assured that there is nothing to worry about from the incident.”

Gambari succeeded the late Abba Kyari, who died in a Lagos hospital while treating coronavirus in April 2020. Meanwhile, It had been previously reported that two people were killed after armed robbers attacked a bank bullion van at Elemosho village along Akure-Ondo expressway in Ondo East local government area of Ondo state on Thursday evening, May 6. It was reported that eye-witnesses quoted in the report said the robbers attacked the bullion van headed toward Akure, the state capital around 5 pm and made away with an undisclosed amount of money.

The witnesses added that three people were reportedly shot in the operation, which last minutes before the gunmen ran into the bush. In a related report, amid the incessant kidnappings and killings of innocent Nigerians, President Muhammadu Buhari presided over a security meeting at the State House in Abuja. It was reported that the crucial meeting is not unconnected with the escalating insecurity in different parts of the country and general outcry by various stakeholders. Those who attended the meeting are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; chief of staff to the president, Professor Ibrahim Gambari; and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major-General Babagana Monguno.

According to its website, Virunga is Africa’s oldest national park. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, home to exceptional wildlife, including the last of the world’s critically endangered mountain gorillas.

A handsome gallant Ghanaian soldier, Lt. Felix Tei Sormenah had died, just one month to his wedding, which was billed to hold on the 6th of October.

Felix died after he was knocked down by a reckless driver on Friday.

 

According to award-winning journalist Mabel Aku Banaseh who shared the news on her Facebook page, the late soldier was a fine brain with a promising future and it is hurting that he is no more.





In a lengthy post on Facebook, Mabel wrote:

"I took particular notice of him because he was busy moving up and down to ensure all things go well at my young sister's wedding reception on April 28, 2018 Lt. Felix Tei Sormenah, a friend of my sister's husband, was a reflection of what true friendship was on that day It was all joy when he turned up with his fiance at my residence the following day after church service for lunch Lt.

Sormenah was billed to marry on October 6, 2018, but something tragic has happened to him He was knocked down by a vehicle. We were all hoping for his speedy recovery after his surgery so we can witness his big day But alas, my sister called me and delivered the chilling news amidst inconsolable tears This fine young man died today before 12 noon.


I feel pained. It hurts to lose such a fine brain with a promising future. He left behind his sorrowful parents, a grief-stricken fiancée, siblings, family members, friends, and loved ones. Felix, your friends, loved ones and those of us who barely knew you are heartbroken. God knows why this has happened. His ways are not our ways. I leave you in the hands of the Creator. May you find eternal rest in God's bosom.

Chelsea star Willian has used his time away from football to take a holiday in Israel and get baptised in the River Jordan.

Willian briefly put contract talks with Chelsea on hold to seek spiritual nourishment after getting baptized in River Jordan.

He is understood to be a devout Christian, with the footballer acclaiming the significance of baptism in the religion.

The Police in Delta State on Sunday arrested Lawrence Daniels, the elder brother to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.


This came few weeks after she got married to Delta State born billionaire Mr Ned Nwoko.

The video of the arrest which surfaced online showed Lawrence Daniels in handcuff.


In the video, Regina’s mother, Rita Daniels, claimed it was the fourth time the police were arresting Lawrence and that they kept arresting her children, harassing them and taking away their peace.

“What have I done? They keep harassing me and children in Delta state,” she kept yelling.

Regina Daniels’ mother, also kept asking why they can’t be allowed to move freely.

On his part, Lawrence claimed he did nothing to warrant the arrest.

The police were also seen wielding their guns while the leader of the team told Rita Daniels to talk to him.

A Valencia team bus carrying the Copa del Rey trophy, staff members and some squad players, was on Sunday morning, May 26, involved in a collision with a lorry to briefly halt the club's title celebrations.

According to a Marca report citing police sources, a vehicle collided with a lorry before the bus was involved in the traffic accident.

The report further confirmed only one person was injured in the unfortunate incident, with those boarding the Valencia team bus escaping unhurt.

Former Super Eagles player Osaze Odemwingie’s hotel manager has been murdered in Benin.

The hotel is located at Erediauwa Street off Upper Sakponba road in Benin-city.

Mr Osato Okunkpolo, the Hotel Manager is married to a Journalist, Anita and works for a local tabloid in Benin City.

According to sources at the hotel revealed that the robbers gained access to the hotel at about 9pm and shot Okunkpola dead instantly.

But Edo Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said Okunkpolo was hit by a bullet in a shoot-out between two rival cult groups.

DSP Nwabuzor said members of Eiye and Aye engaged in a shoot-out in the area on Sunday night.

“It was not an armed robbery incident. The corpse has been deposited at the Bénin Central hospital mortuary.

“Our detectives are still investigating the incident.”

Two men were allegedly killed by drunk policemen in the early hours of today during new year celebration in Edo State.

The incident reportedly happened at King's square, Benin, Edo.

According to an eyewitness, Alpha, the drunk policemen were also trying to celebrate by firing gunshots into the air at their station opposite the Oba market, but instead opened fire on the duo.

One of the victims reportedly died immediately on the spot while the other lost his life moments later as he was not able to get appropriate first aid to keep him alive.
